About The Company:
Boise Philharmonic
The Morrison Center For Performing Arts
Swayne Auditorium At Northwest Nazarene University
Passion: The object of such love or desire. Boundless enthusiasm. And abandoned display of emotion. Fervor, fire, zeal, or ardor. A great warmth and intensity of feeling. Strong, enthusiastic devotion to a cause.
Do you have it? Ask yourself: What is it in your life that you’re passionate about?
Sometimes, just being around people who are have a zest for what they’re doing can create a domino effect, sparking passion in those around them. One good way to get the fervor flowing is to attend a performance of the Boise Philharmonic, where passion abounds.
The Season Finale is upon us, with none other than Chee-Yun joining the Philharmonic as an honored guest. One who’s captured the heart of audiences on five different continents, is deeply devoted to her art and sports an endless list of accolades, Chee-Yun is called ‘a born performer’. A frequent guest on National Public Radio’s Performance Today, she has also appeared on ESPN, performing the theme for the X Games, to name only a few. Chee-Yun made her first public appearance at age eight, and has been charming audiences ever since.
Performing with Chee-Yun will be the Boise Philharmonic String Quartet. Jill Rowley with her touring prowess, having visited fourteen countries and playing 203 shows, now performs as Associated Concertmaster and is first violinist in the Quartet. She coaches both professionals and young musicians in an effort to make sure that the art carries on. Paula Stern, in her 26th year with the Philharmonic, is currently serving as Principle Second Violinist. She’s been among the faculty of the College of Idaho, NNU, and BSU and is an outstanding and popular teacher. Tom Tompkins on the viola has been performing with the Philharmonic since 1966. Known for his improvisational skills, he also composes and plays folk, rock, country, Irish and Jazz and has done numerous recordings. His day job is as the Director of Facilities for the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy, home of the Boise Philharmonic. Ned Johnson, cello, has been a soloist with the Utah Symphony, University of Utah Orchestra, the Reno Chamber Orchestra and the Boise Philharmonic. Ned has also performed for major entertainers in nightclub settings in Reno.
And then, there’s Robert Franz. Maestro Franz had been showered with praise for his ‘extremely musical and passionate approach towards music making.’ He is a proponent and champion of new music, having conducted many world premiers and works by composers who are still among the living and breathing. Maestro Franz continues to reach out to Treasure Valley students through music education in the schools. The impressive list of classical soloists that Maestro Franz has worked with continues to grow. Maestro Franz is the embodiment of passion when he conducts, working his musical magic.
